Real name: Kou Yamamoto. Artist name: nouseskou. He began his practice within Kyoto’s underground hip hop culture. He was involved in founding the dance team “nouses,” which blends street dance and contemporary art. Using methods of Musique Concrète, he creates his own sound works and develops a unique dance expression he calls “concrete.” He became a finalist in both world street dance and world contemporary dance championships, and has presented works in Switzerland, France, and the Netherlands. He has collaborated and performed with Shintaro Oue, Tomohiko Tsujimoto, Hiroaki Umeda, Shintaro Hirahara, Ruri Mito, and Mirai Moriyama. In recent years, inspired by TouchDesigner, he has developed works exploring the relationship between technology and the body. His practice is strongly influenced by the atmosphere found within Kyoto’s nature and temples and shrines, as well as by the Japanese Mono-ha movement of the 1970s. Crossing dance, video, installation, and NFTs, his work continues to expand through collaborations with global brands and international art projects.
